Less Emissions Inc. partners with CARAS to help offset the carbon footprint of the 2014 JUNO Awards!

TORONTO, March 4, 2014: Less Emissions Inc., Canada's highest quality offset provider, is partnering with The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) to provide carbon offsets and help to reduce the climate impact of the 43rd annual JUNO Awards. Through this partnership, Less will offset greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the heating and cooling of JUNO Week event venues and travel by CARAS members, 2014 JUNO Award nominees, organizers, production crews, and JUNO Week event attendees.

"Less Emissions is proud to be providing carbon offsets for the 2014 JUNO Awards and, for the first time, to be part of the CARAS sustainability strategy," said Ron Seftel, Director, Less. "CARAS is providing an inspirational example to Canadians of what we can all do to make responsible choices for the environment."

The offsets are sourced from the Fredericton Region Solid Waste Commission's (FRSWC) Landfill Gas Management System, a facility designed specifically to reduce greenhouse gases created by landfill waste. The project voluntarily captures and flares landfill gas emitted by waste, eliminating approximately 45,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent from the atmosphere each year—emissions that would have otherwise been released into the environment.

The CARAS sustainability strategy involves collaborating with partners and suppliers to reduce resource consumption, manage waste, mitigate climate change impacts, opt for environmentally and socially responsible goods and services, inspire people to get involved, and create positive legacies for the host community.

As part of efforts for The 2014 JUNO Awards, CARAS recently launched the "What Do You Do?" initiative, an online awareness campaign designed to inspire conversation and action around sustainability featuring steps being taken by Canadian artists and celebrities. In addition, 11-year-old Hannah Alper, a well-known activist, speaker and writer, is returning as the JUNO Awards eco-blogger for the second year in a row, and will be posting to junoawards.ca weekly between now and the end of JUNO Week.

About Less
Less is Canada’s only provider of an EcoLogoM-certified carbon offset program for businesses and individuals interested in lessening their environmental impact. In addition, Less was ranked as the highest quality offset provider in Purchasing Carbon Offsets: A Guide for Canadian Consumers, Businesses and Organizations, released in 2009 by the David Suzuki Foundation and the Pembina Institute.

Less provides high-quality offsets sourced from Gold Standard certified projects, a globally recognized carbon offset certification standard, and VER+-certified projects, an equivalent Kyoto Protocol-based offset standard. In conjunction with conservation and switching to environmentally low-impact products and services, offsetting with trusted, verifiably additional offsets from Less can allow homes and organizations to reduce their carbon footprint, support sustainable development initiatives, and leave a lighter impact on the earth. Less is a trademark of Less Emissions Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Bullfrog Power Inc., a Certified B Corporation.
