The 2017 JUNO Awards partner with Less Emissions Inc. to offset emissions!
OTTAWA, March 28, 2017: For the fourth consecutive year, Less Emissions Inc., Canada's highest quality offset provider, and The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) are partnering to reduce the carbon footprint of JUNO Week, with 2017 events to be held in Ottawa from March 27th to April 2nd. Through Less, CARAS is offsetting greenhouse gas emissions resulting from travel to and from JUNO Week events as well as from heating and cooling of event venues.
"We're pleased to announce that for four years running, CARAS has chosen high quality offsets to mitigate the climate change impact of JUNO Week events," said Ron Seftel, CEO, Less. "Signature Canadian events like the JUNO Awards play an important role in raising awareness of the credible actions we can take to reduce our environmental impact."
Through the partnership with Less, CARAS follows an easy three-step approach to minimize greenhouse gas emissions. They first look for opportunities to reduce or avoid emissions, such as using energy conserving LED technology in set design and opting for train over plane travel. They then switch to environmentally lower-impact alternatives whenever possible. For example, CARAS is choosing Bullfrog Power—Less' sister company— to provide the 2017 JUNO Awards with green energy and the JUNO Express powered by VIA Rail Canada with green fuel. CARAS then works with Less to attain high quality VER+ Standard certified offsets sourced from a Canadian landfill gas capture and destruction project to offset emissions that could not otherwise be reduced or avoided.
Aside from mitigating climate change impacts, CARAS and the JUNO Awards also take concerted action to collaborate with partners and suppliers to reduce resource consumption, manage waste and opt for environmentally and socially responsible goods and services. These efforts are part of an overall sustainability strategy that CARAS has had in place for almost a decade.
Less, ranked as the highest quality offset provider by the David Suzuki Foundation and the Pembina Institute, provides businesses and individuals interested in lessening their environmental footprint with two convenient options for purchasing offsets. Less' international-based offsets are derived from Gold Standard-certified projects, as endorsed by leading environmental groups, including WWF International. Less' Canadian-based offsets are sourced from projects that have achieved certification under the internationally recognized VER+ Standard. www.less.ca
